Tauck has announced two new tours in Egypt for 2020. Each itinerary will take travelers throughout the Valley of The Kings on a private tour, as well as on a multiple-night cruise and exploration along the Nile aboard an Oberoi riverboat.
A 10-year conservation project has restored the wall paintings in Tutankhamun’s tomb, making now an ideal time to visit the pharaoh's final resting place, Tauck said. Enhanced lighting and air filtration systems were installed, along with a new viewing platform and improved walkways and signage.
The two new itineraries in 2020 will mark Tauck's first visits to Egypt since 2011. The company’s 13-day “Jordan & Egypt: Petra to the Pyramids” tour starts with two nights in Amman, Jordan, at the Kempinski Hotel Ishtar, before heading to Petra for two nights. In Jordan, guests will tour the Roman ruins in Jerash, visit Mt. Nebo and Madaba, and travel to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Petra to witness its notable Treasury. On their last day, guests experience a private tented evening in the desert, with dinner, traditional music and Bedouin sword dancers.
The next day, after trekking on a 4x4 desert excursion in Wadi Rum, guests will go to Egypt for a guided visit to the Aswan High Dam; one of several notable locations highlighted during guests’ week-long exploration of Egypt. Prices for “Jordan & Egypt: Petra to the Pyramids” are from $8,990 USD ($11,680 CAD) per person, double occupancy, plus airfare.
A second new Tauck itinerary, the company’s 10-day “Egypt: Jewels of the Nile,” focuses solely on Egypt. It omits a tour of Jordan but includes Egyptian locations and experiences featured in the 13-day “Jordan & Egypt” itinerary, including the private, after-hours tour of the Valley of the Kings and a visit to Tutankhamun’s tomb. Prices for “Egypt: Jewels of the Nile” are from $6,990 USD ($9,080 CAD) per person, double occupancy, plus airfare.
The new tours will include a multiple-night Nile cruise aboard an Oberoi riverboat; the 13-day “Jordan & Egypt” trip will offer a three-night cruise on the Oberoi Zahra, while the 10-day “Jewels of the Nile” itinerary will include a four-night voyage on either the Oberoi Zahra or the Oberoi Philae. The Oberoi Zahra and Oberoi Philae have 27 and 22 staterooms, respectively. Larger staterooms are 284 square feet or larger, each with a private bathroom. Dining venues on each vessel serve à la carte selections. Other amenities include complimentary Internet, a fitness center, spa, movie theater, dance floor and an outdoor swimming pool on the Sun Deck.
Along with travel by riverboat, Tauck guests will fly on selected charter flights. The 13-day itinerary will include a charter flight from Jordan to Egypt, plus roundtrip charter flights between Aswan and Abu Simbel. Likewise, guests on “Jewels of the Nile” will fly roundtrip between Aswan and Abu Simbel aboard chartered flights.
Included in Tauck’s pricing are most meals, all transportation (including cruise fare, on-tour flights and airport transfers), admission to all attractions, most gratuities, service charges, taxes, porterage and more.
In other Tauck news, notable chefs will be cruising on the company's upcoming Danube departures. Chef Jacques Haeringer, proprietor and executive chef of L’Auberge Chez Francois in Great Falls, Virginia, will join guests on the August 14 westbound sailing of Tauck’s “Danube Reflections” itinerary.
