Wilderness England has unveiled its collection of new trips for 2025, including a new gravel biking itinerary. The new seven-day guided “Gravel Biking: Galloway and the Lakes” itinerary begins in Scotland and heads deep into the forests and secluded glens of Galloway Forest Park before crossing the border into England to pedal through the Lake District.
Highlights of the new gravel biking itinerary include the opportunity to pedal part of the Gralloch, a gravel race that takes place in the hills of Galloway and forms part of the UCI Gravel World Series; a visit to Crafty Distillery in Galloway, which produces gin and whiskey; an exploration of the narrow, glaciated valleys, steep-sided, heather-cloaked mountains, and fields crisscrossed by drystone walls that characterize the Lake District National Park landscape; traversing the Newlands Pass and the village of Buttermere; and taking the route less traveled through Whinlatter Forest. Departures are available June 14-20 and September 6-12, 2025.
Another new addition to Wilderness England’s trip roster is the seven-day “Wilderness Walking: The Lake District” guided holiday. The itinerary will explore villages, take guests on a boat trip across Derwent Water and stops at Dove Cottage, the former home of William Wordsworth. Along the way, travelers should keep an eye out for wildlife as they learn about the history and literary heritage of the region. Other highlights of this trip include the exploration of Duddon Valley, which is slightly off the beaten path; a hike up Lingmoor Fell; meandering through the Borrowdale Valley; and an easy walk around the lake of Buttermere, one of the finest low-level walks in the Lake District. Departures are available from April through September, 2025.
Wilderness England also recently introduced Lake District walking trips in autumn and winter for those interested in exploring the region during the off-season. The new “Wilderness Walking: Winter Cotswolds” itinerary showcases the villages of Bibury, Burford, Winchcombe, Southrop, Eastleach Martin, Eastleach Turville and Bourton-on-the-Water. Highlights of this trip include taking a circular walk through the Windrush Valley; and exploring Belas Knap Long Barrow, said to be about 5,000 years old, and enjoying the view of Sudeley Castle, the only privately owned property home to a former queen’s final resting place. Departures are available February 17-21 and March 17-21, 2025.
