A new codeshare agreement and new flights in South America lead this week’s air travel news.
This week LATAM Airlines Group and Finnair, both members of oneworld, announced a new codeshare agreement on flights between LATAM’s São Paulo, Brazil, and Santiago, Chile, hubs and Finnair’s Helsinki hub via five European gateways. As part of the codeshare agreement, LATAM’s LA code will be added to Finnair’s flights between Helsinki and London, Paris, Madrid, Barcelona and Milan, providing LATAM passengers with access to Finland. The new codeshare services are now available for flights starting October 1, 2019.
Elsewhere in South America, JetBlue announced plans to expand into Guyana, an up-and-coming ecotourism destination bordered by Venezuela, Brazil and Suriname. Starting April 2, 2020, JetBlue will fly to the country’s capital of Georgetown out of New York – JFK, operating daily nonstop service on its new A321neo aircraft.
In other new flight news, Ethiopian Airlines finalized its plans to launch flights to Houston starting December 15, 2019. The direct, nonstop service via Ethiopian’s West African hub of Lomé, Togo, will operate three times weekly.
Finally, in low-cost carrier news, this week French bee announced a new route between Paris – Orly and Newark Liberty International airports. Operated on Airbus A350 XWB aircraft, the new daily flights will begin June 10, 2020. The new route follows the launch of a new route to San Francisco in May 2018 as part of the airline’s expansion plan in North America.
