Air Travel: New Minneapolis - Shanghai Flight, Expanded Bermuda Service

New flights in Mexico and Asia leads this week’s air travel news

This week Delta proposed a new route between Minneapolis - St. Paul and Shanghai, with a projected launch date in June 2020. Pending government approvals, Delta would operate the new nonstop flight on the airline’s flagship Airbus A350-900, marking the first-ever nonstop service to China from Minnesota

In low-cost carrier news, this week Viva Aerobus celebrated the start of its route between Mexico City and New York - JFK. The daily flight will add more than 135,000 seats to the route in its first year of operation, with ticket prices starting from $100. 


Finally, this week United announced a number of new flights. Just in time for ski season, the airline announced it will increase service on its Newark - Telluride route to daily from December 19 - January 6 and from February 16 - March 30, with Saturday and Sunday flights January 12 - February 10. The airline’s former weekly La Guardia flights will be absorbed into the expanded Newark service. 

United is also adding daily holiday flights from San Francisco to Telluride to complement three times weekly service through the season.

Finally, this week United Airlines announced plans to expand service to Bermuda from Newark in 2019. Starting April 29, the airline will offer daily service. In 2018, daily service from Newark began on June 7 and ended August 20.  It was a schedule that started later and ended earlier than the service offered by United in 2016 and 2017.
