Airlines are issuing flight change waivers for customers traveling through the northeastern United States as a storm is set to hit the area ahead of a busy holiday travel weekend.
According to the latest forecast from Accuweather, a flash flood warning has been issued for northeastern New Jersey and southeastern New York, including most of New York City. The warning is set to be in place until 10:45 a.m. local time. Elsewhere, the storm will being snow and ice to the northern tier of the Northeast, parts of the Midwest and the western slopes of the Appalachians as it tracks northeastward from the upper Gulf coast to eastern Quebec. Severe wind and rain, as well as poor visibility, could cause flight delays in an area ranging from Orlando, Florida, and Charlotte, North Carolina, to Washington DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York City, Boston and Newark, New Jersey.
United Airlines has issued a flight change waiver for customers set to fly December 21 through the three New York City-area airports -- Newark, JFK and LaGuardia -- as well as the airport in White Plains, New York. Customers can rebook through December 24 in the originally ticketed cabin (any fare class) and between the original city pair.
JetBlue is allowing customers set to fly December 21 through JFK, LaGuardia, Newark, Newburgh and Westchester County to rebook through December 24. Customers with cancelled flights may also opt for a refund.
