British Airways has announced that it will launch nonstop service three times a week from London to Durban, South Africa, starting on October 29, 2018. The new service will be the only nonstop flight between Europe and Durban, making it easier for North American travelers to connect to the city.
The overnight flight will depart on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays from London's Heathrow Airport (LHR) Terminal 5 at 3:15 p.m. and arrive at Durban’s King Shaka International (DUR) at 5:35 a.m. local time. The returning flight will depart Durban on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays at 7:35 a.m. and arrive in London at 5:45 p.m. The flight will be operated by the airline’s newest aircraft, the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner.
Durban offers upscale beach experiences in Umhlanga, surfing opportunities at The Golden Mile, and ideal weather year-round, making it a popular beach destination to begin or end any South African journey. The city offers close proximity to the wildlife parks of KwaZulu-Natal and serves as the gateway to the Zulu Kingdom.
Tickets are available online and start from about $812 in World Traveller (economy cabin), about $1,646 in World Traveller Plus (premium economy) and about $4,338 in Club World (business class). Customers can also choose to cut the cost of flights by using Avios in part payment.
British Airways also operates a twice daily service from Heathrow Terminal 5 to Johannesburg and flies year-round to Cape Town every day from Terminal 3 and three times a week from Gatwick during the winter season. British Airways has a long-standing partnership with Comair who fly direct from Johannesburg and Cape Town to Durban and six other destinations across South Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands.
