Starting April 30, Eurostar’s London – Amsterdam service will operate fully direct both to and from the Netherlands. Tickets for the direct return journey will open for booking starting February 11.
Since 2018, Eurostar has operated service from London to Amsterdam and Rotterdam. The new connection will offer direct travel both ways.
There are currently three outbound services per day from the UK to the Netherlands. The direct inbound journey form Amsterdam to London will start with two services, with the aim of increasing to a third, and then to a fourth, Eurostar said.
The inaugural service departed Amsterdam Centraal the morning of February 4 at 7:48 a.m., with the event attended by Cora Van Nieuwenhuizen, Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management and Ankie Broekers-Knol, Secretary of State for Security and Justice in the Netherlands. The service runs approximately four hours and nine minutes, arriving at St. Pancras International station in London. Grant Shapps, Secretary of State for Transport in the UK, attended the arrival event.
Van Nieuwenhuizen noted that checks in Brussels will no longer be necessary, saving travelers an hour of travel time.
Eurostar Chief Executive Mike Cooper said that the train line’s services from the UK to the Netherlands have proved very popular, with over half a million travelers since launch.
Eurostar said that its journeys between London and Amsterdam result in 80 percent less carbon per passenger than the equivalent flight. Fares start from $46 each way.
