Strikes on airlines and rail carriers in France are set to continue disrupting travel through the month of April. Here are the latest updates.
Air France reports that several of its staff unions are calling for strikes April 17, 18, 23 and 24. On April 17 the airline said it plans to operate 70 percent of its flight schedule, including 55 percent of its long-haul flights; 65 percent of its medium-haul flights to and from Paris – Charles de Gaulle; and 80 percent of its short-haul flights to and from Paris-Orly and the French provinces. The airline said it would release its flight schedule for April 18 the day before, and that it remains too early to evaluate the impact of the strikes on April 23 and 24. The strike affects flights operated by Air France and Joon, but not Hop!, KLM and Delta.
Air France is offering customers set to fly on Air France or Joon on April 17, 18, 23 or 24 the chance to rebook through April 30, although it is recommended that customers avoid rebooking onto another strike day. Customers can also postpone their trip after April 30; change their destination or departure city; or cancel their trip, in which case Air France will issue a nonrefundable voucher that will be valid for one year.
Delta is also offering a number of rebooking options for customers on flights operated by Air France, Hop! or Joon. Customers set to fly on any of the above strike days can rebook April 15 – 30, with the new ticket to be reissued on or before April 30.
Meanwhile, a national strike is set to continue disrupting rail travel. National rail carrier SNCF reports that customers can check the next day’s updated train schedule starting at 5:00 p.m. the day before, local time, on SNCF’s website or app.
