France Strikes: Rail, Flight Disruptions Continue This Week

Nationwide strikes in France over changes to the national retirement system are continuing to cause travel disruptions throughout the country.

French rail operator SNCF warns that traffic is likely to be severely disrupted across its entire network, and it is urging all passengers to postpone their journey. Guests can get an exchange or refund at no cost on OUI.sncf. Travelers can also search for their train by train number on the SNCF website to see if their train is still running.

Air France reports that French air traffic controllers are being called on to join the strike Thursday, December 12, which will likely cause some disruptions to the airline’s short- and medium-haul flights scheduled for that day. The airline warns passengers to expect last-minute delays and cancellations, too. Passengers can postpone their flight to any date up to December 20 free of charge. Travelers can also postpone their flight to sometime after December 20, change their country of destination of origin or cancel their trip, in which case the airline will provide them with a nonrefundable voucher that will be valid for one year and can be used on Air France and KLM flights.

Delta is likewise allowing travelers scheduled to fly on all short- and medium-haul flights operated by Air France through December 12 to rebook through December 20, with the new ticket to be issued on or before that date. The airline will also waive the change fee for travel beyond December 20, but a difference in fare may apply.
