Key West International Airport has announced upgrades to its infrastructure with the launch of a $100-million expansion project. State, local and airport officials gathered in Key West on Wednesday, November 2, for a groundbreaking ceremony that marked the start of the $100 million expansion.
Monroe County Administrator Roman Gastesi, Director of Airports Richard Strickland and other officials attending the groundbreaking ceremony outlined details of the Concourse A terminal expansion. The project is estimated to last approximately two and a half years. The expansion project is designed to improve the airport’s level of service and operational flexibility while accommodating projected changes affecting the aviation industry.
The new second-level concourse is estimated to feature nearly 50,000 square feet of space including an extensive contemporary departure area and additional baggage areas, as well as an upgraded security checkpoint that supports up to four security lanes.
In addition to the aforementioned facilities, seven passenger boarding jet bridges will provide all-weather access linking the terminal and aircraft, while an extended passenger bridge is to connect the existing terminal building with the new concourse.
Currently, six carriers—Allegiant Air, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue, Silver Airways and United Airlines—serve Key West International Airport with daily nonstop flights to several destinations.
The airport is located at 3491 S. Roosevelt Blvd. near the entrance to Key West. The expansion is targeted for completion by early summer 2025.
