Qatar Airways has become the latest airline to lift the laptop ban.
According to the latest statement from the airline, all personal electronic devices can now be carried onboard all departures from Hamad International Airport in Doha to destinations in the United States.
“Qatar Airways and Hamad International Airport have met with all requirements of the US Department of Homeland Security’s new security guidelines and we would like to express our thanks to the US and local authorities for their support during this process,” the airline said. “We would also like to thank our loyal passengers for their understanding and patience while the ban has been in place.”
Qatar Airways joins Emirates, Turkish Airlines and Etihad, who have also lifted the laptop ban after implementing the new security measures. Emirates and Turkish Airlines were cleared to allow laptops and other electronic devices in airplane cabins Wednesday, while Etihad was cleared Sunday.
The DHS announced the new security measures late last week, avoiding a proposed expansion of the laptop ban to include flights from additional destinations that had caused much concern in the travel industry. While the new security measures include elements both visible and invisible to passengers, according to a statement by the DHS, the new rules do not involve changes to items allowed in carry-on and checked baggage. However, passengers flying to the U.S. may experience additional screening of their person and property, the DHS warned.
