Beginning October 5, Lufthansa will once again serve Los Angeles with its popular Airbus A380 aircraft. With air travel surging in demand, the added capacity that the A380 brings to the L.A. region will provide the much needed increased volume that the market requires.
Already operating daily flights to and from Los Angeles to Munich, Lufthansa’s decision to place the A380 on rotation will provide a much needed increase in passenger capacity due to the route being in high demand. Flight LH453 will depart Los Angeles at 6:15 p.m. and arrive into Munich at 10:55 a.m., the following day. Flight LH452 will depart Munich at 12:20 p.m. and arrive back in Los Angeles at 3:20 p.m. All times are local.
Since 2010, the Airbus A380 has been one of Lufthansa’s most popular long-haul aircraft. The Airbus A380 is the world’s largest commercial aircraft—78 feet high and almost 239 feet long. Lufthansa’s Airbus A380 consists of 509 seats, with a four class configuration offering First Class, Business Class, Premium Economy and Economy Class.
Due to a high proportion of composite materials, the A380 is 15 tons lighter and has a 50 percent lower noise levels than comparable long-haul aircraft. Moreover, the A380 flies in and out of airports at the same speed of an A320. All of these characteristics contribute to the reduction of aircraft noise in surrounding areas of airports. Furthermore, the A380 has 33 percent lower fuel consumption and correspondingly lower CO2 emissions than aircraft of the previous generation.
As previously announced, Lufthansa will bring the A380 to Boston Logan International Airport, for the very first time, beginning June 1 (June 1 to October 27) and resume the A380 service to New York’s JFK International Airport on July 4 (July 4 to October 28).
The Lufthansa Group serves three California gateways, Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco, offering daily flights to Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich and seasonally to Vienna, with the group’s three main carriers—Austrian, Lufthansa and SWISS.
