New Strike in France to Cause Minor Travel Disruptions

Approximately 170 strikes across France to protest changes to the country’s labor code are causing minor travel disruptions Thursday.

The Connexion reports that Ryanair has said it will cancel “a small number of flights,” although other budget airlines EasyJet and Jet2 are set to operate as close to a normal schedule as possible. Approximately a third of TER rail services from SNCF were cancelled Thursday.

According to The Local.fr, backup air traffic controllers are on call Thursday in Reims, Athis-Mons, Brest, Bordeaux and Aix. The transportation network in Paris, RATP, is expecting to run normally on “most of the network,” including the Metro, RER trains, buses and trams.

Anadolu Agency reports that a protest march is scheduled in Paris for 2 p.m. local time, although the number of protestors is not expected to be high.

The strike is the latest in a series of labor actions that have disrupted travel to France over the changes to labor law. In October a strike canceled a number of flights on Air France, as well as causing disruptions on flights sold by American Airlines and Delta.

Thus far no major airlines have issued change waivers in response to this latest strike. We’ll issue an update on www.travelagentcentral.com if further information becomes available.
