Rail Europe has announced that the two iconic Swiss panoramic trains—the Glacier Express and Bernina Express—are now available on its website and app. By doing so, Rail Europe has further confirmed its mission to aggregate European Rail at an international scale and expand its portfolio of products, to make train travel easy and to bring more people onto rail.
The Glacier Express, the “slowest fast train in the world," connects Zermatt to St. Moritz and winds its way through remote valleys, past sheer rock faces, mountain villages, over the Landwasser Viaduct, through the Rhine Gorge, the "Grand Canyon of Switzerland," and the actual glacier Jungfrau, of course. The train scales the highest point of its journey at the Oberalp Pass, located 6,670 feet above sea level. Thanks to its large panoramic windows, the train provides a clear view of numerous summits, deep gorges and the UNESCO World Heritage sites “Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch” and “Rhaetian Railway in the Albula/Bernina Landscapes”.
The Bernina Express, the highest railway line across the Alps, connects northern Europe with the south. And it does so via a railway line in harmony with its mountainous setting. The Bernina Express covers over 76 miles through 55 tunnels, 196 bridges and viaducts up to 65 meter high, including the famous Brusio spiral viaduct. The track between Thusis and Tirano has been part of UNESCO World Heritage since 2008.
Each year, over 400,000 people travel via the Glacier Express and Bernina Express on average. Rail Europe's expansion of its product portfolio with these popular panoramic train rides reinforces its position as a premium partner providing travelers with the largest rail distribution system.
