Typhoon Trami is set to shut down airports in Japan over the weekend, disrupting flights in the Okinawa area.
According to the latest update from the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO), Tryphoon Trami is projected to approach Okinawa and Amami Islands on September 29 and continue northeast along Japan through October 1. As a result, Naha Airport’s domestic and international terminals will be closed on September 29, with a projected reopening at 6 a.m. local time on Sunday, September 30.
A number of airlines have issued change waivers due to the storm:
Customers on American Airlines and Japan Airlines traveling through affected airports September 30 - October 1 can reschedule for travel September 28 - October 2 between the same city pair in the same cabin (or pay the difference).
Customers on Delta traveling through October 1 can reschedule through October 4, with the new ticket to be reissued on or before that date.
On United Airlines, customers scheduled to fly September 29 - October 1 can rebook September 29 through October 7 in the originally ticketed cabin and between the original city pair. Customers can also rebook after October 7, or change their departure or destination city, but a difference in fare will apply.
ANA will offer an alternative ANA flight or refund in the event of delays or cancellations due to a typhoon. Customers can check the status of their flight here.
