GoTürkiye has announced that Hilal Demirel has been appointed to head the New York offices of the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Culture and Tourism. She succeeds Hüseyin Baştürk.
Demirel was born in Istanbul and graduated with a degree in economics in 2005. She completed a Master’s degree in management organization and organizational behavior, and a PhD in business administration, all at Hacettepe University.
Since 2006, Demirel has worked at Türkiye’s department of promotion in the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. From 2013 to 2019, she served as the cultural and promotion attaché in Zurich. In 2019 and 2020, Demirel took on short-term roles as the director of the Office of the Counsellor for Cultural Affairs and promotion of Türkiye in Stockholm. Additionally, during work in Switzerland, she was responsible for promotional activities for Türkiye in Central European countries such as Austria, Hungary and the Czech Republic.
An avid tennis player, Demirel is also a fan of Agatha Christie books, learning new languages and baking.
