Journey Beyond is putting the SeaLink ferry and coastal services it recently acquired under one national name, Island Connections.

The Australian experiential tourism group said the brand covers marine operations serving Bruny Island in Tasmania, the Whitsundays, K’gari (Fraser Island), the Tiwi Islands, Groote Eylandt, and the Darwin-Mandorah route. Those services carry more than 400,000 passengers a year, a mix of visitors and the residents who depend on the boats to get on and off the islands.

For advisors building Australia itineraries, the pitch is easier combinations with the rest of the Journey Beyond portfolio, which spans travel brands in Australia and New Zealand.

“Island Connections makes extraordinary destinations more accessible and gives our guests a seamless way to explore Australia, whether that’s rail to reef, river to resort or city to the sea,” said Chris Tallent, CEO of Journey Beyond.

Jennifer Vandekreeke, managing director of the company’s Experiences & Attractions division, will oversee the business.

“From the waters around Bruny Island and the Whitsundays to the Tiwi Islands and the Top End, these are special places with their own stories, communities and character,” Vandekreeke said. “Our role is to support the people who know these destinations best and bring these iconic destinations within reach of more travelers.”

Journey Beyond’s full marine portfolio now counts more than 150 vessels and 2.6 million passengers a year.
