Accessible tourism is no longer considered a niche market, according to the latest "Accessible Tourism Trends Report" from TUR4all Travel. With 1.3 billion people worldwide living with disabilities and an aging population driving demand, the sector has grown into one of the fastest-expanding and most influential in the global travel industry.
“With over 1.3 billion people worldwide living with disabilities and a rapidly aging global population, accessible tourism is not just a social responsibility—it is an economic opportunity,” said Miguel Carrasco, COO at TUR4all Travel.
The report positions Spain as both a premier destination for international travelers with accessibility needs and a strong outbound source market of Spanish travelers seeking inclusive experiences abroad. Data from 2024 shows Spain attracting visitors primarily from the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany. American travelers, in particular, emerge as the most lucrative inbound market, spending an average of €273 (around $317) daily, with preferences for premium cultural and heritage experiences. British and French visitors account for more than a third of accessible inbound travelers, while German visitors increasingly favor nature, wellness, and wine tourism.
Spanish travelers with accessibility needs are also contributing to the global trend, with top destinations including France, Italy, and Portugal. The United States stands out as the leading long-haul option. Seniors over 60 represent the dominant traveler segment, though younger travelers are increasingly seeking accessible festivals, sporting events, and adventure tourism.
