Income among hosted travel agents is up this year, according to a new study from Host Agency Reviews. According to the website’s latest travel agent income report, average income for established agents is up 10 percent in 2019 over the previous year. (Host Agency Reviews defines established agents as those with three years of experience or more.)
According to the report, income for established agents was up even as the average income among all hosted agents held steady at $33,732. By comparison, the average income for established hosted agents was $44,312. Overall, 84 percent of agents reported that their income increased from the previous year.
Additionally, established agents who reported selling travel full time earned 39 percent more ($61,427) than the overall average. The number of agents selling travel full time was up as well: 61 percent of hosted agents reported selling travel full time in 2019, as compared to 51 percent in 2018 and 47 percent in 2017, representing a 10 percent increase from last year and a 14 percent increase from the year prior.
Host Agency Reviews said that this trend aligns with 60 percent of hosted agents reporting that selling travel is their primary source of income, up 13 percent from last year and up 23 percent from 2017.
The travel agent income report polled hosted travel agents with an income of $500 or greater and with at least one year of experience selling travel. Income was reported before deductions as the sum of commissions, service fees, consultation fees and related income.
