Tianguis Turistico 2020, one of the most important travel tradeshows in Mexico, has been postponed to September 19 – 22. The show, which will still take place in Mérida, had originally been scheduled for March 22 – 25.
Now in its 45th year, Tinaguis Turistico is a travel industry event and business forum that attracts the tourism authorities of over 32 states in Mexico. This year more than 350 exhibitors are expected to attend, as well as 1,351 buyers, including tour operators, wholesalers, travel advisors and meeting and incentive planners. This year’s show will take place in Mérida in the state of Yucatan.
Officials said that they made the decision to postpone the event due to the ongoing COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.
“After an extensive analysis on the situation that prevails in the international health field due to the presence and expansion of this virus, and in order to contribute to the prevention and health regulation actions carried out by the government of Mexico through the Ministry of Health, we have decided to postpone the 45th edition of Tianguis Turistico,” said Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico Miguel Torruco Marqués.
Officials met to consider postponement after Wednesday’s declaration by the World Health Organization (WHO) that COVID-19 is officially a pandemic. Almost 125,000 cases from 118 countries and territories have been reported, according to the latest statement from the WHO.
